SUGAR FLOWER SHOP - Amazingly Realistic Sugar Flowers For Wedding Cakes!

Sugar Flower Shop

Oh my goodness - do you see that flower up there? Isn't it beautiful? Can you believe it's made of sugar and molded to be the amazing work of art that it is? I am just enamoured by the artistic flowers that Amy from the Sugar Flower Shop creates. They are so real looking and add such an elegant touch to any cake. Take a look at the wedding cake below, it was homemade. The Sugar Flower Shop flowers make it come alive with personality! Without the flowers - it would have been just an ordinary tall cake but... now it's a work of art.
Look at the close-up of the flowers. Theyappear as if they are sculptures... which they ARE - the only thing is, they are non-toxic. While they aren't really edible because they do contain wire within them to give strength and sturdiness - they definitly won't harm your frosting or leave any chemicals behind as real live flowers might. Amy does have the ability to make completely edible flowers if you request this of her. Your choice of flower design is limited when not using the wires - because some designs just need wire to support the shapes. So you can keep that in mind if you are thinking of how you want your flowers to be.
The flowers are all handmade - constructed & sculpted and then when they are ready they are painted with a food coloring gel which she paints on with amazing detail and beauty. These flowers are truly a work of art. The Sugar Flower Shop ships their sugar flowers world wide. You may order the flowers and have them safely shipped anywhere you want to make your own homemade or bakery cake extra special. This is really great for brides who are watching their wallet. Brides who can have a homemade wedding cake and then add these flowers don't have to sacrafice beauty for budget!! For those of you lucky gals, located in the NYC metro area you can order the entire cake with flowers and all. Amy will custom create it special for you.
Amy began creating sugar flowers after mastering some different flowers taught through a few amateur classes - She did not attend culinary school. Some flowers came so effortlessly that she began investing her free time, reading and trying new techniques and looking to nature through pictures and dissecting real flowers. This allowed Amy to train her eye to produce more realistic flowers. After being persuaded by friends and family to begin selling her incredibly realistic creations, she opened the Sugar Flower Shop in 2006. (boy yet another artist who was told by friends and family to sell her creations. I think that's the way 99% of all the artistic entrepreneurs got their start.)
Look at these beautiful cakes. The top one for a festive Autumn occasion and the bottom one for spring time wedding maybe? They are both so unique and so lovely in their own special way! So different but they have one thing in common - they were made amazingly beautiful with the help of the Sugar Flower Shop!
Amy works with brides and home-bakers, providing sketches to help with design and layout and to get inspiration flowing. If desired she will even provide detailed instructions to the bride on how to lay the flowers out, so that they will each be placed in the best location to acheive the desired effect.
Here it is only a few years since Amy opened her shop - and she has received numerous accolades from all over the country. Her work is currently appearing on the STYLE Network as a part of a recurring special entitled, "Martha Stewart Weddings: The Art of Cakes II" and is featured in the Spring 2009 edition of Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine and in the June edition of CLEVER! Magazine. Isn't that a wonderful Sucess story... going from playing around with sugar and paste - to being featured in such huge magazines and specials. Amy has also appeared as a guest chef at the 2009 Macy's Flower Show in Herald Square and will be involved in an event at Bloomingdale's with La Prairie cosmetics this July (this month). In addition to creating flowers for cakes, Amy also works with local artists, occasionally contributing sugar sculptures for use in art projects. You can see her website and the a press release about how she's helping budget conscience brides at the links below.
