THE BEAD WIFE - Kalera Stratton - Unique Lampwork Beads - handcrafted!

THE BEAD WIFE - Kalera Stratton

Kalera started making beads back in 1992.  She's been at work with learning techniques and finetuning her talent for about 17 years now.  Kalera dabbled in lampwork bead creation for about a decade.  It was a hobby that she really enjoyed.   This dabbling proved to be a great foundation for her when she decided to take her art to the next level.   Around 2002 she decided to go full time into lampworking.
She's living with her three children and a plethora of pets in a 1909 bungalow in Portland Oregon. She's grateful for all the circumstances that led her to this point, because this is exactly where she wants to be, and she's happy!  - Now that is a GREAT thing to be!  To be happy with the way ones life is going and to be happy in your career is a wonderful thing.
So what is lampworking anyway? The name is derived from the gas torch, or "lamp" In which the artisan heats colored glass rods to fluidity and, in the case of beadmaking, winds the molten glass around lengths of specially-coated steel wire (mandrels).  Lampworking is sometimes known as "lampwinding" as well.   If you are interested in much much more info about lampworking and also more about Kalera the artist -  you can read about it all at her website below.   Bio and lampworking links are below for your convenience.

These beads are scrumptuous, especially the last one. But then, I have special preference for blue-greens.
